Subway Rat – Summertime

“Born David Polanco on November 19, 1993, Subway Rat is an indie rocker from the borough of Queens, New York City. A few months after a rough, prolonged breakup with his college sweetheart and a life altering late diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1, he wrote his first-ever song. It’s called Rendezvous. With no prior musical experience, Subway Rat has written dozens of songs since then in collaboration with indie guitarist and producer Paco Lee, along with multi-platinum, Grammy-winning engineers at Lounge Studios in Times Square. Fans describe his raspy voice, aggressive delivery, romantic storytelling, and energizing rock beats as an exciting mix of fellow NYC legends such as The StrokesThe Velvet UndergroundTalking Heads50 Cent, and Pop Smoke.

Following the success of his debut album, which surpassed 1 million streams, Subway Rat’s new singles Outta TownHope, and Moon have amassed hundreds of thousands of streams, generating excitement among fans. Building on his raw, emotive songwriting, the album showcases Subway Rat’s growth with poetic storytelling and advanced studio techniques. Recorded at Lounge Studios and released under his own label Rat Tooth Records, Captain of the Football Team is a breakup power pop anthem with an NYC alternative twist, blending hi-fi production with underground lo-fi vocals. The album is projected to make a strong debut, fueled by Subway Rat’s unique pop, rock, hip hop fusion sound and passionate following around the world, especially in Brooklyn, Latin America and the UK.”

A catchy and comedic homage to genre darlings such as The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem, this post-punk track released last month by Queens indie artist Subway Rat has the percussion locked down and the lyrics tied in a bow. With a vibe that’s 1 part grunge, 1 part slapstick and 2 parts joy, Summertime is a good time as well as an impressive piece of music. Featuring a prominent kick drum and some really cool vocal effects, this track is little short but very sweet.
