This track is FIRE! Released by US trans rapper Judah Merez back in September, Minimal is a work of supreme poetry that maintains a solid sense of sincerity while not losing a sense of humor amid some serious subject matter. A portrait of the interpersonal and romantic turmoil that trans people, women especially, often go through in a complex world that doesn’t have an accurate understanding of the intertwined emotional and physical human realities. Musically, this track is expertly composed with a “Minimal” approach to percussion and instrumentals, keeping it very simple, and allowing the vocals and writing to be the true star. Sitting at a length of 5:56, the track’s ending is almost like a lullaby, fading out to sleep.
