Thin Blue Crime is a song by Cassetta, a new project based out of Los Angeles that blends heavy and dark influences to create a pummeling wall of sound. The song was produced by Kevin Fifield and mixed by Jeff Dunne, who has worked with bands like Make Them Suffer, Veil Of Maya, and Motionless In White. The song was released as a single on March 19, 2023, along with a music video directed by Brad Alexander for Wise Old Crow Media. The song is a critique of police brutality and corruption, with lyrics like “They’re not here to protect you / They’re here to oppress you / They’re the thin blue crime”. The song is available for streaming and download on various platforms, as well as on cassette tape via Bandcamp.
Cassetta features current and former members of various metal and hardcore acts, such as Pressure Cracks, Suicide Silence, Scars of Tomorrow, Fake Figures and The Arson Choir. And they do just that with their debut single “Swallow the Sun”, which showcases their talent and potential in one powerful song. The band draws from a wide range of influences that reflect their diverse musical backgrounds. The result is a brutal and cathartic blend of hardcore, metalcore and deathcore. The song’s intensity is matched by the lyrics, which express the band’s disdain for the world’s darkness.
