The latest release from independent rap and hip hop artist Jiggy Tone, Level Up is a rather brief and formulaic example of conscious hip hop with a heavy rap presence. What is remarkable about this track, aside from the impressively tight flow, is the inextinguishable positive energy and upbeat narrative set to a Duke Ellington remix-style piano beat. While he’s not reinventing the wheel by any stretch, Jiggy Tone is steering the narrative of a genre, which historically has been either hyper focused on deep political discourse or preoccupied with surface level materialism, into a new direction.
