Artist Spotlight:
YungDrop
![]()
Hailing from Dundee, Scotland, artist YungDrop makes a blend of industrial, electronicore, and metal with rap and trap influences. Having been interested in entertainment and music from a relatively young age, YungDrop recalls a festival his father took him to at age 12 and credits that for laying his foundational interest in music: “my Dad took me to Sonisphere Festival (Knebworth, UK). Getting to see big names like Parkway Drive, Architects, Limp Bizkit, Motorhead and SLIPKNOT was what made me want to become involved in the music world and entertain people.”
Today’s influences come from the likes of OmenXIII, CityMorgue, Ghostemane, Scarlxrd, however, the practical application of YungDrop’s interest in music came from film: “I remember watching Michael J Fox in the first Back To The Future playing guitar and instantly wanted to learn to play. After the initial first lessons and getting to grasps with the basics I started to meet up with other musicians of all levels, joining week long bands and learning covers mostly but it would soon progress to writing original material.”

Releases of note include Depression Sessions II, a 6 track EP that spans the full range of YungDrop’s sound. The album art is reminiscent of something that UNIF clothing would’ve put out in their early days, invoking both a twisted rendition of a cultural icon and a photo book you might find on someone’s really cool coffee table. Sonically, the EP is an instrumentally experimental blend of different genres, with rap-style lyrics and glitch effects intertwined among scream lyrics and trap beats. But to call it Trap Metal would be an oversimplification. Tracks of particular note are Hate Team and Sick of This, each a dark and razor-edged narrative about different underbelly facets of life.

With his newest EP Depression Sessions II released in the last year, YungDrop has some extensive plans for the future: “I have a new project called AK-IMBO with my main guy 4thy (4th and isles) dropping very early next year – like quite literally January. It’s basically Suicideboys but from Scotland/England so it’s going to be real fun to see how that is accepted early on. The 8O8s are next level low and overall the tracks are very different to what many people will expect from the likes of our solo projects. It’s actually really different for the whole genre we are all part of, excited to see how it goes! I will be releasing a track either on or before New Year – it was meant to be part of AK-IMBO but is now surplus to requirements and wasn’t fitting the vibe as much as we first thought so will be released under YUNGDROP. (Also shows how much music we have stored up!) YUNGDROP wise, there is a few bits n pieces kicking about but very much am looking to make a PLAGUE DAZE II and have a Nu-Metal/Rage fest kind of EP. Honestly, I’ll probably take a bunch of my guitars, tune them low as fuck, pop some 8O8s over them and just see what’s what!”
