Born in Sandusky and currently based in Cleveland, Ohio-native Rey Ángel has been making introspective music with a hiphop and emo mix of flavors for just about 2 years now. Claiming influences such as Green Day and Blink 182 (the latter of which is prevalent in tracks like this year’s release E D G E, which has a melancholic vibe similar to that of I Miss You or Stay Together For The Kids).

With an emphasis on percussion, particularly kick drums, Rey’s drums are inspired by artists such as Playboi Carti and Future. Much of Rey’s music is hip hop and rap inspired, it seems, with a unique twist of pop-punk and emo thrown in for extra dimension and diversity.

With a rap style of writing and a post-punk/emo style of vocals, Rey creates soundscapes that are perfectly in league with current mainstream sounds of the same ilk, particularly 44Phantom, Machine Gun Kelly, and Plvtinum.

What really stands out are tracks like MIXED UP, which has a more trap/electronic feel than some of his other work. Another track with a more melancholy subject matter but with a defiant attitude which differs from E D G E. MIXED UP was released last year and still stands on its own two feet as a single. With a pretty substantial body of work and a rapid release rate, we’re excited to see what else Rey has in store for us. With inspirations like Green Day, we’re hoping to see some killer concept albums akin to American Idiot. Fingers crossed!
