A new band has emerged from the gloom, and it’s bringing something strange with it. The Pinetree Tapes, a two-piece melodic death metal act founded by German guitarist and producer Chris Weinhardt, have released their debut single, ‘These Woods Are Haunted’.
The project draws on the frosty energy of Finnish Melodic Death Metal (particularly the early work of Children of Bodom and Norther) but channels that sound into something more conceptual. Each song is treated as a found recording, part of a mysterious set of tapes discovered somewhere deep in the forest. No names, no explanations, just stories half-told and waiting to be explored.
The world of The Pinetree Tapes is an eerie, unsettled one. Ghosts drift through the trees, stories are handed down on warped cassettes, and every song leaves behind more questions than answers.
Electrifying from the jump, this is the newest effort from German melodic metal outfit The Pinetree Tapes and it’s taking no prisoners. Face-meltingly nimble guitar solos, brutal vocal deliveries, and soaring atmospheric details are the centerpieces in Silence. As the tension builds, so does the tempo, and the crescendo at the end perfectly rounds out the entire song. 5 stars!
