THE NORTHERN TUNDRA is combining modern “purring” djent metal riffs with atmospheric, hypnotic rhythms. I intend to create a meditative state through the use of repetition, polyrhythms, contrasts and ambiances. I will also occasionally cover video game music or other popular classics of music, seeing as it’s among my top influences.
Here’s an unexpected little number for your Sunday: the newest release from Canadian artist The Northern Tundra and a cover of composer Grant Kirkhope’s score of the 1997 video game Goldeneye 007. A fascinating progressive metal take on the iconic tune, The Northern Tundra’s rendition of this piece of nostalgia gives brand new dimension while remaining faithful to the original. An atmospheric homage to what was surely an important piece of many a childhood.
Hear for yourself below and compare to the original!
