Paper Lady – Silt

Paper Lady is the immortal crone, casting spells and wreaking havoc in Allston, MA. Paper Lady is portrayed through the physical form of front woman Alli Raina, and summoned by Rowan Martin (guitar), Will Davila (bass), Kenzo Divic (keys), and Alex Castile (drums). They have made a name for themselves within the Allston DIY scene and surrounding Boston area playing what could be described as ethereal freak rock. They hope to one day live on a farm together, record music, and dance under the moon.

When I was first listening to this newest effort from Boston area band Paper Lady, I noted my first impression to myself that said “Lynchian Through The Looking Glass with a sense of earnesty”. That initial reaction was inspired primarily by the accompanying visuals for Silt but which perfectly compliment the sound itself. A dreamy and ethereal trip down the rabbit hole, Paper Lady’s latest release has a strangeness and otherworldly quality to it that is reminiscent of some 80’s and 90’s dream pop mixed with the grunge-y earthy quality of deep bass notes and squealing guitars. But by far the strongest aspect, is the spiritual energy of the diverse and nuanced vocal harmonies which build slowly to an explosive climax.
