Founded in 2013 by Charles Almero, Freycus initially emerged as a punk band. Over the years, they navigated roster changes and experimented with diverse genres, ultimately evolving into the progressive metal realm where their sound and vision flourished. Their debut album, Sown, released on March 29, 2024, captures their unique blend of atmospheric soundscapes and progressive metal rhythms. The name Freycus embodies an unexpected harmony found in the word “fracas.” Traditionally associated with a noisy disturbance, “fracas” symbolizes the band’s ability to reconcile discordant elements into a cohesive and breathtaking symphony. The band’s lineup includes Charles Almero and Zareh Minassian on guitar, Urian Medina on bass, and Donovan Wetterstein on drums. At the end of 2024, Freycus welcomed Pranati Khanna, widely known as Peekay, into the fold. After achieving success and touring extensively across India and Asia, Peekay relocated to Los Angeles, bringing a fresh perspective that solidifies the band’s creative core. Described as the “missing puzzle piece,” Peekay has seamlessly melded into Freycus, helping deliver a bold new vision. This transformation will be unveiled with the release of their new single, Animus, arriving in January 2025. The track marks Peekay’s debut with Freycus, heralding the start of an exciting new creative force for the band.
And what a transformation it is! Released just under 2 weeks ago now, this is the highly anticipated new single from SoCal prog-metal outfit Freycus. What is more striking than even the soaring energy of this track, is the visual accompaniment, which has garnered over 8K views on Youtube since its release. Set in a low desert landscape, the music video allows us to witness the very detailed guitar work that makes this track feel so special. Animus is an electrifying and experimental soundscape that you don’t want to sleep on!
