Dog Save The Queen:
Pre-Election Fight Song Round-Up!
To prime you for election season and remind you that there’s more to political action than just voting, we’ve put together a few of the recent politically potent new releases we’ve had the pleasure of hearing lately. Activism is so much more than just filling in a bubble and the world is in such a place of chaos and turmoil, we at All Metal Everything encourage political action from the ground up. Attend city council meetings in your town. Understand who your elected officials and representatives are, from mayors to senators, and take an active role in holding them accountable.
Stand up for those who have the most to lose more than once every 4 years. Presidential elections are not enough! Policy and precedent has to change from the ground up. And here’s some music to get you started!
Supposition – Tombstone Salesman
progressive metal. metalcore. deathcore.
“‘Tombstone Salesman’ is a metaphor for the unbounded overreach of the American Military Industrial Complex. For fans of slamming breakdowns, technical riffing, and shin-splinting double bass.”
Released earlier this month by US metal band Supposition, this is the first in our Fight Song Round-Up. With electronic elements to tie everything together, Tombstone Salesman keeps the octane high from the jump and powers forward with grinding backing guitar, brutalist vocal delivery, and a shattering metronomic approach to percussion. Cited by the band as a protest to the US military machine, this track is the perfect jolt to your political rage.
Protect The Public – Free The Children
punk. post-hardcore.
““Free The Children”, is a rallying cry for the new generation—a searing critique of the political establishment and a voice for the youth’s frustration and disenchantment.”
A groovy gooey bassline is the secret ingredient in this potent piece of protest art from US band Protect The Public. Taking some cues from funk and pop punk here and there, Free The Children has a certain rap metal vibe throughout that really sets it apart from the others on this list. With news sound bites and sirens here and there, there’s also a distinct vibe akin to LCD Soundsystem’s North American Scum.
Stråle x Bjorn “Speed” Strid – Resist & Reform
melodic metal. hard rock. alternative metal.
A collaboration from Finnish band Stråle and Swedish artist Bjorn “Speed” Strid, this track sets itself apart from the others and steps away from US politics for a bit, clearly demonstrating what we’re all experience is strife, heard round the world. With a certain pop sensibility and some metalcore staples, Though Resist & Reform might be a tad on the nose as far as lyrics go, it’s still a potent voice of dissent, but with a more uplifting tone that is also an essential part of any political action.
DAVES – An Act of Terrorism
alternative rock. punk.
“We are DAVES with our latest release out the end of October, “An Act of Terrorism,” a fierce anthem calling out the rise of fascism and hate.”
A breath of fresh air from the UK, this is the newest release from alt-rock artist DAVES. Talk-singing is the special sauce for this track, giving it a unique but classic punk fight song and the perfect addition to this list. An Act of Terrorism is not just electrifying in title but in both sound and songwriting as well. Taking a straightforward approach to lyrical content, DAVES hammers its core message home in a short but highly effective composition that leaves all the frills behind.
