Equator – Hooligan

Equator’s sophomore album Hooligan—including its standout single—was recorded live off the floor at The Bathhouse Studios in Kingston, Ontario, with all vocals and instruments captured in just five hours. Equator, a Toronto-based band led by Russ Fernandes (Shikasta, The Mercy Now) and featuring Jeff MacNeil alongside members from Garbanzo, delivers a fresh, five-piece soul punk onslaught. Their new release is a raucous blend of anthemic rock ‘n’ roll, brimming with boogie, rage, forgiveness, and raw energy. The music is loud, fast, and bombastic, infused with lyrics that highlight our ongoing struggle for equality and the collective effort required to bridge the gap.

Released just over a week ago now, this rip-roaring high octane track is the latest from Canadian rock band Equator. Wasting no time on the build, Hooligan drops with a brief drum lead-up before immediately tearing the roof off with a lead vocal delivery that is an uncanny reminiscence of AC/DC’s Brian Johnson. Complete with hammering drums and a saturation of guitar riffs, Equator’s lead single from their new album of the same name may seem light-hearted but there’s a deeper, stronger message there if you listen closer.
