Statement on ‘DaDa’ by Roy Oro:
George W Bush and his cabinet was one of the most destructive political forces in human history. Their actions have set us on a course closer to nuclear annihilation and climate catastrophe. The idea that the liberal wing of the capitalist political class is embracing them now is sickening and yet somehow unsurprising.
Still, the idea that these ghouls would welcome the likes of Dick Cheney, an irredeemable monster who ought to be buried under the Hague, is a blow to humanity. The entire Bush cabinet should be doing prison time for their crimes. Yet here we are with a Democrat candidate courting their votes.
This release too represents personal growth. While the song and edit are from 2016, I am entering a new part of my life. One where I try my hardest to let go of my perfectionist tendencies. I have allowed narcissistic personalities to guide me into a “cool” passivity, whereby one postures to the world that they are too cool to be loud, supposedly above the fray and rabble. I’ve learned that these types are vapid, egomaniacs with control issues. It’s my time to let go.
This song was created at the tail-end of my time at university, part of my final project. We put on a show in Vancouver and put together an album. I was largely unhappy with it though, this song and a couple others I still enjoy. After this project I dropped the name “Baphomet MC” and evolved into Roy Oro, which is a play on my biological family name Orozco.
