“Originally formed in 1991, Dayton, Ohio’s Minus One comprises original members Eric Purtle (Dementia Precox, Luxury Pushers, Dark Backward) and Don Habil, supplemented with newly-recruited Patrick Berry (Dark Backward). Resurrecting their signature brew of low-brow industrial, brawny electro and alt-rock/post-punk situationalism, they found themselves pressed back into duty in 2023 almost as if on a dare. Building upon their vintage output of long-out-of-print, cassette-only releases, new album “Die for Art” dishes up something for everyone, yet no one simultaneously; unapologetically “rocking” in the basest sense while frottaging the beats-per-minute enthusiast and jaded WaxTrax! refugee alike. A big-tent affair, the album features the prodigious input of an array of coast-to-coast collaborators.”
Released earlier this month by Ohio veteran industrial band Minus One, Amyl Nitrate is a picture perfect vibe of classic 90’s grime and reverb. Featuring a grumbly and brooding vocal, that is almost reminiscent of Tone Loc if you can believe it, and a collection of percussion and beats that remind us of Prince’s Batman album, Minus One succeeds in providing an eclectic musical experience. Never a dull moment, this track is a party, for sure.
