ANIMÅRUM – machina

“ANIMÅRUM, based in Union City, New Jersey, began in the summer of 2019 when Leart Begolli (Guitar/Vocals), Kevin Chiliquinga (Guitar/Vocals), and Christian Fajardo (Drums) gathered at Kevin’s rehearsal space to jam. Within minutes, the musical chemistry was apparent and a creative match was sparked between them. Initially playing songs from Kevin and Christian’s previous band, Obsoletion, the three friends jammed casually for 3 or 4 months; In early January of 2020, Kevin, Leart, and Christian concluded that the band, then unnamed, should be treated as a more serious endeavor. However, within 2 months of committing to this new project, the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic radically altered their daily lives, as it did for everyone else in the world. Stuck at home, the trio would meet virtually over Discord every night, discussing ideas and listening to music together for hours on end. It was during this time that the seed of the band’s first EP, “The Gaian Mind” was planted. Amid the initial lockdown, Leart reached out to Eddie Adamkowski (Bass), known through a mutual friend, inviting him to play in the band as the music for “The Gaian Mind” began to take shape. With a solid line-up in place, the band set about cautiously meeting in person to rehearse and pursue recording an EP together.”

Released as part of their EP of the same name, this track from New Jersey progressive metal act ANIMÅRUM is an impressively versatile composition that goes from slow and atmospheric to diving in head first through a blend of death metal and melodic influences. The overall effect of Machina (the song) is quite beautiful and boasts a true professionalism and creative ear in both instrumentals and songwriting. As a whole, the EP itself delivers the same level of high quality musicality and innovation.
