It’s a rare occasion that we find a Christmas track that resonates with our platform, and to tell the truth, I almost passed on this one but something in its honest tribute made it worth a shot.
From California by way of Ireland, indie dark wave artist Cash Murphy’s rendition of the iconic annual favorite Last Christmas by Wham!, the 80’s pop band responsible for catapulting George Michael’s prolific career, both pays loyal homage to a classic as well as puts a fresh and deeper spin on it. A true industrial dark wave track, Cash does just enough to reinvent the sound that has become inescapable this time of year. Deep baritone harmonies that almost resemble Gregorian chants and a synthpop catchiness are the central focus of this innovative cover song.
