Thrower – Don’t Fear The Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult Cover)

“Thrower is a dynamic and energetic band originating from Houston, TX, and Baton Rouge, LA, blending Hard Rock, Grunge, Metal, and other genres to create a gritty and thrilling sound. Their music channels the bold energy of the ’90s and the classic vibes of the ’70s while infusing it with a contemporary soul. The lyrics are expressive, dark, and persevering, paired with heavy riffs and booming rhythms for an enthralling experience. Thrower is part of a new generation of rock bands reshaping the scene, and their studio debut album, “Blink,” produced by the phenomenal Bobby Amaru of Saliva, combines influences from the ‘90s, ‘70s, and more recent years making its own new fusion of grunge, rock, and metal. The album delves into the raw realities of the human condition, illuminated by dark riffs, resonating with the hopes and fears of the world today. Every track goes beyond the booming music and hints at deeper meanings within.”

Released around 6 months ago now, this track is a cover from accomplished US rock band Thrower, of Blue Öyster Cult’s 1976 hit (Don’t Fear) The Reaper. A mournful and down tempo version of the rock classic, Thrower has artfully slowed down the original and created a much darker sound and a high octane conclusion. With over 55K views on Youtube, the accompanying music video has received a lot of praise from fans, with some drawing comparisons to Alice In Chains. Regardless, this reimagining of a beloved song is both loyal to Buck Dharma’s legacy and a bold forging of a new path for the fandom.
