“After retiring from NYHC band Vision of Disorder, guitarist Matt Baumbach continued to write music for years, often jumping from genre to genre. He repeatedly would send these tracks to a few friends who often encouraged him to release them. For years it did not happen and tracks kept piling up on hard drives. M@ is a collection of these various tracks including new compositions written in the past few months. The plan is simple. Keep putting up new music as much as possible all the time. Another 20 are to be released next.“
An upbeat and energetic take on dark wave, solo act M@’s latest release Prophecy leads with a lightness that is uncharacteristic but very innovative for the genre. With industrial details here and there, the track has an alt-rock grooviness that reminds me of late aughts indie rock. Heavy on percussion and with a vintage fuzziness throughout, M@’s upcoming collection of tracks are gonna make some serious waves if they’re all as unique as Prophecy.
