“We Are Scorpio is made up of award-winning, world-renowned poet, recording artist, book publisher, screenwriter, and actor, Jessica Care Moore, and dynamic vocalist, songwriter, and musical theater performer, Steffanie Christi’an. The duo’s fiery, upcoming self-titled debut album delves into parts unknown and takes the road less traveled to get there. A unique take on modern rock, the project dares to imagine a world in which spoken word poetry and rock & roll riffs occupy the same space. Across the album’s ten tracks, We Are Scorpio goes beyond what we can even imagine. The duo tapped award-winning guitarist, songwriter, and producer Wayne Gerard who stepped in to help produce tracks “Supa Dupa Star,” “Scorpio,” “Rock & Roll Ni**a,” and “Jim Crow.” Expansive and intimate at the same time, the album is not only unapologetically Black, but universal all at once. Released back in February 2024, this is a potent and passionate effort from US based hard rock act We Are Scorpio. Delivering a mix of hard rock and hip hop with a punk flare, the central focus of this cut from their self-titled album is championing a hard-edged and unapologetic black femininity. This is apparent and striking in both lyrics and in the impressively styled accompanying visuals, which has an insanely impressive 60K VIEWS on Youtube, as of the publishing of this article. Though the writing is a little clumsy in places, Scorpio stands out as a soulful tribute to not backing down and rising up from the ashes with your lips and hair intact and an accurate sampling of the band’s mission and artistic vision.
