“Based in Macclesfield, Queen Cult was formed by lead vocalist and guitarist Maisie Johnson, with Brodie Carson on drums and Piers Jarvis on bass.
Unapologetically queer, Queen Cult released their fierce and politically charged debut EP ‘Woman That I Know‘ in January 2022 and a second EP, ‘For Now Not Forever’, followed in February 2023. A couple of stand-alone singles followed in 2023, including their first ever self-produced single, ‘Sneaky Freaque’.
Queen Cult started 2024 with a sold-out show at Sapphic Sounds in London in February and new single ‘Be Better’. In March they supported Fort Hope on their UK tour and they continue to perform live across the UK.”
A fireball of energy and attitude, this latest single from UK alt-rock band Queen Cult is a finger-licking delicious composition of high octane sound. A potent blend of influences such as The Aces and Cherry Glazerr, Stop Calling also boasts some cool similarities to bands like The Strokes, early The Sounds and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. With a grinding and chuggy guitar-heavy instrumental throughout, Queen Cult showcases their expert lyricism as well with some truly sharp jabs and wordplay, one of our favorites being: “Okay, I’m done, you’re takin’ the Mick. How long before you use another one of your tricks?”. With a tour currently underway, if you’re in the UK and can manage it, definitely go see these kids live!
