Artist Spotlight:

FLESH//COATED//TECH

Where are you from?

Baltimore, Maryland moved to LA In 2005.

Why do you make music?
I grew up in the 80s/90s listening to hiphop, metal, pop, rock and Industrial. That music I associate with so many memories. I make music because it’s fun, I don’t think it’s for everyone but I just wanted to create a Cyberpunk space opera. Plus trying to get someone to help with a project is like asking them to play Russian Roulette but I got lucky with some key contributors to this album.
However I’d like to take it further with an onstage theatrical performance in the style of GWAR with some cosplay and props. Looking to make some short movies with each track following a storyline as well.
What’s your latest or next release?
I have a release coming out March 21st.. There will be remixes since it was all experimental and now I have a better idea of what direction I want to go with going forward.
What are your influences musically?

Prince, NIN, Mastodon, Gary Numan, Pink Floyd, Flaming Lips, Gangstarr, The Roots, Nitzer Ebb, Ministry, Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Vangelis, El-P, De La Soul.. Lately more 80s 90s Industrial and modern industrial electronic like Qual, NTRSN, PC World, Zwaremachine, No Sleep By The Machine, Older tunes like Scapa Flow, Leather Strip, Demolition Group, Institute for the Criminally Insane the list goes on.

The first single from the self-titled album Recycled Flesh is out now!
Check it out below!

“Flesh Coated Tech is an Experimental Industrial Metal Cyberpunk Space Opera by Craig Phelps along with producer Detective 47 of Digital Dust Studios and Matthew Alexander, through a synthesis of Industrial, electronic, space rock with mechanical beats, noise and elements of doom, progressive and black metal.

Emerging from the astral and intertwined with the physical and digital, Flesh Coated Tech’s space opera burrows into the subconscious and opens a portal to the mind with a psychedelic cinematic soundscape that takes you through multiple dimensions and alternate time-lines. It’s content embraces dystopian cyberpunk themes, augmented realities, futuristic warfare, mind uploading, artificial wombs, clones, cyborgs and space colonization in this Sci-fi odyssey.

To formulate the music behind the story they collaborated with other local artists such as metallic hardcore band Colombian Necktie, Matt Becks (vocals, percussion), Lindsay Paige Garfield (operatic vocals) , and Jacq Riot (co-wrote cybernetic organism).”

The album self titled FLESH//COATED//TECH will be released March 23rd on Bandcamp at https://fleshcoatedtech.bandcamp.com/album/flesh-coated-tech
